Delivery and farm store pickup near Roanoke

Almost everything we sell is collected from the farm store in Troutville, fifteen minutes north of Roanoke. We also ship, though what we can ship depends on what you are buying.

Farm store pickup, the way most people buy

Order online, we pack it, and you collect it from 457 Country Club Rd in Troutville. We let you know when it is ready. Pickup is free and it is the only way to get everything we sell, including eggs and the items from local makers that cannot travel.

Store hours are Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, 9am to 6pm. Closed Wednesday and Sunday. Directions are here.

Where our customers come from

We are in Botetourt County, straight up Interstate 81 from Roanoke. Most of our regular customers drive from these places, and most of them fold it into an ordinary errand run:

If you are on the north side of Roanoke you are about fifteen minutes away. From Salem or Vinton it is closer to half an hour. From Buchanan or Fincastle it is a short run down the valley.

Shipping

We are a pickup farm store first, and that is how nearly every order goes out. Eggs, dairy, bread and the goods from local makers are collected at the store only, because they do not travel well and we would rather you got them in good condition.

Frozen beef, mutton and chicken can be shipped in insulated boxes, but it is not the way most people buy from us and the cost depends heavily on how far the box has to travel. If you want something shipped, ring the store on (540) 240-9955 before you order and we will tell you whether it makes sense.

Buying a larger quantity

Questions we get asked

Do you deliver to my door in Roanoke?

Not at present. Roanoke customers collect from the farm store in Troutville, fifteen minutes up Interstate 81. It is the single most common way people buy from us.

How long does my order stay held?

Ring us if you cannot make your pickup day and we will keep it aside. Everything stays frozen until you arrive.

Can I just turn up and shop?

Yes. The store is open to walk-ins during store hours. Ordering ahead only matters if you want something specific, because eggs and the popular cuts do go.

Coming from your part of the valley

Everyone measures the drive differently, so here is roughly what it looks like from the places our customers actually come from.

Roanoke

Fifteen to twenty minutes from the north side of the city, straight up Interstate 81. Most Roanoke customers order online, collect on the way past, and treat it as one stop rather than a trip. If you work anywhere off Plantation Road or Hollins, you are closer than you think.

Salem and west Roanoke County

Around half an hour, out through the city and north. Worth ordering ahead so the box is packed and waiting rather than shopping the shelves when you arrive.

Vinton, Bonsack and the east side

Twenty five minutes or so up 460 and onto 81. A good run for anyone already heading toward Botetourt.

Daleville, Cloverdale and Troutville

You are our neighbors. Five to ten minutes, and you can shop the store in person without ordering ahead at all.

Fincastle, Buchanan and Blue Ridge

Fifteen to twenty five minutes down the valley. Worth a call before you set out if you want something specific, so we can hold it.

What is worth the drive

If you are making the trip, these are the things people load up on:

• Pasture-raised eggs, which cannot be shipped far and go quickly
• Grass-fed ground beef, cheaper by the box than by the pound
• Steaks, including the cuts most butchers keep back
• Roasts and slow cooking cuts for the winter
• Grass-fed mutton, which almost nobody else in the valley sells
• Dairy, sourdough, coffee and work from local makers

Why we do not deliver to the door

We could, and plenty of farms do. We would rather put the time into the cattle and keep the price where it is. Pickup also means the meat comes out of one freezer and goes straight into yours, with nothing sitting in a van in July.

It has a second benefit we did not plan for. People who collect their own order tend to come in, look at the pasture, ask a question, and leave knowing something about their food. That is worth more to us than a delivery route. This is how the animals are raised, and you are welcome to ask about any of it at the counter.
